SHINE
In 2018 and 2019 I participated in the SHINE project, in which I helped to design and build an experiment which flew on the International Space Station.
SHINE is a collaboration between Swinburne University and Haileybury College. Together, we are part of the Quest for Space program, which allows groups of High School students around the world to get a taste of Science and Engineering in the coolest way imaginable - by flying an experiment on the ISS! |
Through my work at the Engineering Practice Academy at Swinburne University, I was thrilled to have the chance to travel to San Jose, where I spent a week learning from ex-NASA engineers the details of what it takes to put an experiment on the ISS
Bringing that knowledge back home to Australia, I worked as a mentor to the university and high school students, helping them figure out the details of the mechanics, electronics and programming for their experiment. |
In April 2019 the team gathered together and watched the rocket launch, taking our experiment up to the ISS! It was a surreal moment, to know that something we had worked on for so long was leaving the earth.
